Top Manchester, NH Personal Trainer Transforms Your Health and Fitness

There’s a science to training your abs so that you not only get results, but more importantly, that you don't get hurt in the process.  It’s very important that you follow a safe progression of exercises that are appropriate for your needs.   

 

Last month I wrote a post sharing tips on how to train your abdominals safely and effectively, and I introduced the first of three phases of abdominal exercises.

 

If you’ve already assessed your core, and you’ve been following the phase one exercises, you may be ready to move on to phase two.

 

In the video below are my top three intermediate level abdominal exercises.

 

Before you perform abdominal exercises, you MUST assess your core first.  To read about how to assess your core strength click here: How to Flatten Your Tummy After Pregnancy.

 

Remember to apply the four principles of safe and effective abdominal training:

 

  1. Perform your abdominal exercises at the END of your exercise circuit.
  2. Always train your lower abs first, followed by your obliques then your rectus abdominus (upper abs).
  3. If you are sore from a previous work out and cannot perform the exercises with perfect form, DO NOT train your abs that day.
  4. DO NOT train your abdominals every day.
